It's All About Me: The Guide To Destroying A Community

What Is Democracy?

The Asante tribe of Ghana and the Gyaman tribe of the Ivory Coast developed the symbol  Funtunfunefu-Denkyemfunefu, and many others to represent important cultural concepts.

The Ghanaian Adinkra symbol depicts a crocodile with two heads that fight over food, but share one stomach. Funtunfunefu-Denkyemfunefu symbolizes the importance of setting aside those points of view and opinions personally developed in order to remain focus on what is intrinsically most important; and that is to achieve a common goal in order to provide positive change for the collective people. Initially, this symbol was designed to remind the Asante that infighting and tribalism were dangerous for the well being of the community. Over time, the meaning transformed well beyond its original significance, and can be applied to the politics and tribulations existing today which call for the democracy of a community to resolve its concerns.

Resist The Temptation Of Isolation

Many of us are living in a world of selfishness and greed. Particularly in the U.S., it seems ever present that the culture would have it that every man is out for himself.

Social media has created new levels of narcissism that should add several more chapters of mental disorder diagnosis to the DSM-V.

Yet in the midst of it all, though it may seem quite difficult, we have a responsibility to preserve a compassionate heart for each other, for at the end of the day, whether we like it or not....we are all that we have.

Try and take some time out to think of the well being of your neighbor. You don't have to negate the fact that you may have opposing views, yet the character you build is developed within the choices that you make. This shall determine y(our) future, and the future of next generations. Think of the symbol of Funtunfunefu-Denkyemfunefu.

Kill The Makeup Tutorials And Contour The Mind

      Self-Image Gone Wrong

Makeup is big business. It seems that almost everyone wants to get into the act. Should you entertain yourself by watching Youtube, you will find thousands upon thousands of both women and men vlogging tutorials on how to apply makeup. Many of the people turn out looking quite stunning when they are finished. It is equally amazing to see those with severe acne scars completely smoothed over (so-to-speak) with tons and tons of makeup camouflaging the damage.

Celebrities certainly do not help the plight of women in particular with their self-image, as it has become customary to pile layers of makeup on for a more theatrical look even when the average Jane Doe is simply walking to the corner store. She can't seem to leave the house without projecting a somewhat false image of herself, in fear that someone may see her in her natural state. The photo to the top left is a prime example of what happens to self-image once it has been distorted. The makeup goes truly haywire.

Six Stages (Or More)  To Making Up Her Face

Above we have a fine example of the level of stages and layers required to receive a contoured finished look. Glamorous...right? She is totally flawless. Yet I would question if she and many others take as much time cultivating the inside of the face (where the mind is) as much as the pampering it takes to generate a so-called look of perfection.

     Know Thyself

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing makeup. Women in particular have been doing so since the ancient days of Khemit. (Egypt)

      **Quick History Lesson**

The first archeological findings of Egyptian cosmetics is dated to 3100BC (ceremonial palette that was used for grinding and mixing of cosmetic ingredients), but more regular artifacts could be found after 1500BC. One of such great findings was located in the tomb of the Pharaoh Thutmosis 3 (c1450BC) which featured not only buried consorts of the ruler, but also their fashion items. Few of those surviving cosmetic jars even managed to preserve cleansing oils that were used to remove elaborate mascaras, lipsticks and eye shades.

In those days, makeup served as a symbol of status. Egyptian royalty, aristocracy, and middle class fully embraced cosmetics and made it to be an important part of their lives. But somewhere along the lines there became a shift within the psyche of many women today. Women are now paying thousands of dollars that many can not even afford to uphold a makeshift image of themselves while the internal self lie dormant; a mere shell, or wilted flower if you will, waiting to be watered.

Disclaimer: This is not an article promoting the non-use of makeup. But rather a reminder that while you are contouring your nose, be sure to contour and calibrate the mind, so that the efforts of your internal brilliance and beauty dictate what you decide to do on the outside.

As always: You Are Uniquely & Brilliantly Adorned.

How To Combat Insecurity And Ignore Judgement

  Battling Insecurity

There is a common theme of stereotype that many people feel, that those that are "insecure" generally look a specific way, come from a challenged background, or have had limited resources which places them at a disadvantage. But the truth of the matter is, "insecurity" can manifest in a variety of different ways from the people you would least expect.

Let us first define what is meant by being "insecure". In an effort to reduce my need to be overly scholastic, I thought I would make an attempt to define "insecurity", based on my own observations and journey. First it should be noted that the term insecurity as per the dictionary states that it is the "uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence".

Once again, I do not profess to be an expert, but I have encountered, and counseled many young women in particular, ranging from ages 18 years of age to age 40 (even older) who have had challenges with coping with a lack of self confidence or low self-esteem. We could hypothesize that many came from broken homes, or had a lack of education, had minimal family/friend support, or were even isolated in the midst of a greater social status with many opportunities. The point is, there are no specific indicators that the average non-professional person can deduct, by looking over at someone at a glance and determine why he or she may be feeling that their circumstances are less desirable than  others.

What About The Men?

Let's not seclude men for a moment. They too feel insecure about an array of circumstances that would have them feel that their masculinity has been challenged.

Whether it be a situation with career or finances, family status, or physique, men can be subjected to the same plight of encountering circumstances that challenge their self-confidence.

Both men and women react and respond in a multitude of reactionary ways resulting from such unsurety, that can serve as a detriment to themselves and others.

 Symptoms Of Insecurity

Here are a few indicators of behavioral symptoms from insecurity, taken from an excerpt of psychotherapist, Dr. Gerald Stein:

  • 1. Are you able to give a compliment? Even more important, can you graciously accept one? The latter behavior tends to be difficult for someone who is unsure of himself. He might blush or become flustered. Alternatively, he is prone to dismiss the validity of the praise, instead telling you why it isn’t true. What should one do if complimented? Smile and say “Thank you.” Nothing more.
  • 2. The ability to maintain eye contact is hard for many individuals who lack confidence. They will turn away or look down, but rarely hold the gaze of the other by looking into his or her eyes.
  • 3. The self-doubting person tends to apologize when no apology is necessary. It is as if she expects to be reproached or is afraid to give offense; so, she prophylactically tries to excuse any possible mistake to avoid such a response.
  • 4. Answering a question with an upward inflection of the voice has been done by everyone. The person being questioned doesn’t have certainty about his answer, so he replies with a tone betraying his insecurity.
  • 5. Men and women who are uncomfortable with sharing personal information for fear of being judged will oft-times turn the conversation to a different topic, away from anything that might make them vulnerable or reveal too much. This is also called “changing the subject.”
  • 6. One way of inoculating yourself against criticism is to joke at your own expense. Do this often and others may conclude you believe you are flawed.
Fight The Urge To Compare

A common theme to people's insecurity has much to do with other people. While making a comparison of others seems to be a natural human response, it should not be the ideal to quantifying one's life and how they fair in it.

Embrace Your Talents

Security in one's self first starts by eliminating the judgments of others. You literally have to remove the intensified concern of acceptance from others and embrace your authentic gifts, talents and abilities. If you should find that you are different from others....GREAT. Embrace it, as you are a step further than you think.

Know Your Strengths & Weaknesses

We all have a combination of both. Build upon those things that you would like to change within yourself based on your own definition of you. Excel in those things that already make you unique and stand out in the crowd.

Embrace The Unknown

Be totally real with yourself, humble yourself, and accept the results of a new way of thinking and being. Know your worth and your purpose. It's okay to test it out. That is the beauty of your journey.

Expect Success

I consistently tell people that you are a galactic being, which means that there are no limitations to your success. When someone does try to interfere with your success, flee, quickly. You do not need any negative energy surrounding you. Thinking positively about what is to come, will produce the road that will take you exactly where you wish to be, and are destined to be.

***While there may always be an area one fights against security, that is absolutely a part of the process, but the key is to never let it interfere with your overall greatness. Be well!***

5 Amazing Benefits Drinking Cucumber Water

There is nothing more refreshing to quench the thirst, particularly in the Summer season than a lovely tall glass of cucumber water.  Moreover, the fact that there are so many health benefits, makes cucumber water that much more appealing.

Here are 5 sensational health benefits to drinking cucumber water:

1. Helps Hydrate You
When you meet your specific water needs you’ll enjoy the benefits of staying hydrated, like maintaining the right body temperature, helping your cardiovascular system, and assisting in the cleansing of toxins. You’ll have more energy and help each of your organs do its job better when they’re getting enough water.

2. Helps Your Muscles
Cucumber water helps your muscles stay strong is a good idea. The same silica in cucumbers that helps the skin, also helps your muscle tissues healthy. It’s a great choice if you’ve added a strength training regimen to your healthy lifestyle, or if you want to make sure that your muscles have all of the nutrients needed to function at their best. A daily glass of cucumber water makes a great contribution to the overall health of your muscles, and your body in general.

3. Stabilizes Blood Pressure
Keeping your blood pressure stabilized is important because it will help keep you away from debilitating diseases like stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, or vision loss. By drinking cucumber water you’re staying hydrated, and helping your blood pressure thanks to the 4% DV of potassium cucumbers contain.

4. Provides Vitamins and Minerals
While water by itself is not a great source of vitamins, when adding in cucumbers vitamins and minerals are added that will help supplement your diet. Since these vitamins are coming from whole food sources and not synthetic vitamins they’ll be better absorbed and utilized by the body than if you were to get them from waters marketed as containing added vitamins.

5. Curbs Appetite
Drinking a glass of cucumber water when you’re hungry can help you make it until your next meal if it’s not quite mealtime. Eating when you’re not actually hungry can lead to weight gain, sluggishness, and can throw you off your natural eating cycle. When you feel hunger coming on before it’s time to eat again, see if you’re just thirsty. Thirst and hunger use the same signal, and drinking cucumber water can help determine if it’s really hunger that you’re dealing with. Saving yourself from just a few unwarranted meals a week can be a big boost to your health.

Go and get a glass right now!

Grow Thicker, Longer Eyelashes Naturally

Ladies, want thicker, longer eyelashes? Try these remedies:

1. Castor Oil: Can help you enjoy lustrous and voluminous lashes. It also helps fight micro-organisms that hamper growth. Follow either of these remedies daily for 2 to 3 months.

  • Use a clean brush or a cotton swab to apply castor oil on your lashes before going to bed. You can also add a few drops of vitamin E oil to the castor oil before applying. Leave it on overnight, then rinse it off with lukewarm water in the morning.
  • Alternatively, mix together 2 tablespoons each of castor oil and fresh aloe vera gel. Apply it on your eyelashes using a cotton swab. Leave it on overnight, then rinse it off the next morning.

 2. Olive Oil: Olive oil is a well-known natural remedy for thicker hair growth as well as eyelashes. This oil is rich in vitamin E and oleic acid that nourish and add volume to your eyelashes. It also helps keep the lashes dark.
  1. Dip a clean, old mascara stick or simply a cotton swab in warm olive oil.
  2. Before going to bed, apply the oil carefully on your lashes, just as you would apply mascara.
  3. Leave it on overnight, then wash it off with lukewarm water in the morning.
  4. Repeat this remedy daily for a few months until you get the desired result.

3. Lemon Peels: You can also use lemon peels to add volume to your eyelashes. The peels are rich in vitamins C and B, folic acid and other nutrients that promote the growth of eyelashes. Also, when infused in olive or castor oil, they will help enhance the cleansing and stimulating properties of the oil.

  1. Put 1 tablespoon of moderately dried lemon peels in a container.
  2. Pour enough olive or castor oil into the container, so that the peels get soaked.
  3. Allow it to sit for a couple of weeks.
  4. Using an old mascara stick, apply the oil on your eyelashes before going to bed.
  5. Leave it on overnight, then wash it off with warm water in the morning.
  6. Follow this remedy for a few months to get encouraging results.

4. Egg: The high protein in eggs can help create thicker and longer eyelashes. In addition, it contains biotin and B vitamins that play a major role in improving the overall texture of your lashes.

Beat 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of glycerin until you get a thick, creamy texture.
  1. Dip a cotton swab into this mixture and apply it on your eyelashes.
  2. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse it off using cold water.
  3. Follow this remedy 3 times a week for a few months.
You're Going to look beautiful!

Man Head Butts Bus; Knocks Himself Out Over $2

This would be an instance where I would want to ask the question, "What's the problem???" This is a case of cruelty vs. foolishness. Foolish wins.

Apparently in Winter Haven, Florida a passenger got off the bus and realized he was at the wrong stop, but the bus driver would not let him back on unless he paid a new $2 fare. Consequently, he got angry ad well....head butted the door of the bus, and cracked the window. Needless to say, he temporarily knocked himself out (as you can see at the bottom right of the photo. )

Was it worth the cruelty of the bus driver to make him pay again, when the man merely got off at the wrong stop? That's just mean. But then was it worth it to head butt the bus and knock yourself out? Now, lastly, can you see the guy over to the left sitting on the bench just taking it all in???

This is a clear cut case of the dumbing-down of America... Insensitivity plus stupidity equals lower frequency behavior.

At any rate, the suspect is described as approximately 5-foot-9 with a slim build and wearing glasses. He was wearing slip-on shoes with socks, and dark green or gray shorts. His T-shirt has the graphic "Ounces 40" on the front. Have you seen him? If so, tell him not to do that again...it's stupid.

BEWARE Of Job Security: It Does Not Exist

It is safe to say in 2015, that there is no such thing as job security. For those unfamiliar with the terminology, according to Wikipedia 'job security' can be defined as, "the probability that an individual will keep his or her job; a job with such security that it is unlikely he or she would become unemployed."

It is said or believed that the greater your skill set, the more likely you will be able to maintain or preserve your position at a company. The U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 made the attempt to make it illegal to fire employees for "certain reasons". Unions can additionally strongly influence job security. Jobs that traditionally have a strong union presence such as many government positions, and additional sectors in education, healthcare and law enforcement are considered more secure while many non-unionized jobs in the private sector are generally believed to offer lower job security. This does however vary with industry and country.

At the end of the day, neither a Civil Rights Act of 1964 (!!!), nor union representation can cease the inevitable departure of employment that an employee may potentially face within their career span. Aside from the fact that many states practice "at-will employment" which is a term used in the U.S. labor law for contractual relationships in which an employee for any reason without having to establish "just cause" for termination, and without warning. There are a host of other justifications which would affect an employee, and send them packing. Another fine example would be when a corporation executes a restructuring and down-sizes in varied positions. The employee, despite their skill set, may very well see themselves on the other side of the office door.

This stinks, I know, yet it is a cold reality. My advisement to you? Never be so comfortable in your position so as to think you are a shoe-in for retaining your position.

Another means of inching employees out the door...?

While an administration of a company would NEVER admit to this; the creation of  a hostile work environment may manifest, (as quiet as it is kept) in an attempt to minimize positions with an expectation of the few employees left to succeed as if business were as usual.

This usually occurs when an organization fails to hold itself accountable to creating a work environment conducive to achievement. And when all else fails, simply provide them with some form of disciplinary action which would lead to potential termination of employment (which would be the underlying intent in the downsizing process.)

While this seems a tad drastic and risky from a legal perspective...trust me, it happens!

Solutions Please!!!

So what is the solution to this job security or the lack thereof? Well I'm not suggesting that upon hire you don't bring in your family picture or photo of your pet (although I never got why people did this anyway...) But what I am telling you is that your focus should always be cultivating ongoing development of your skills and abilities in preparation of wherever you go or whatever you do. This is an added bonus for yourself because the more value you add to yourself, the more earning potential you will have. It's just that simple. Make learning your focal point which will provide you with staying power your entire career; whether working for others or partaking in entrepreneurial ventures.

Okay so I am not an employment expert by far. However I have had several positions within the social service industry over a span of 20 plus years, many in a leadership capacity. My mantra has always been to not marry my job. I can gain skills, I can even be dedicated, committed and a team player while there, but at the end of the day, it's not about the place, it's about the skills and what will lead me to the next dimension of my own personal growth and success.

If you choose to climb a corporate ladder, best wishes. But while climbing, be sure to have a plan in your back pocket that will propel you to the place you truly wish to be. Bottom line: Know your worth, and strive for what matters. But what ever you do (particularly in the U.S.)....stop relying on job security because it does not exist.

Coconut Oil For The Treatment & Curing Of Viruses

by Abeni Bamidele

One life saving medicinal food that I can not live without is Coconut Oil. The coconut is known to be called the tree of life, for it has been benefiting humans in a variety of ways, such as, food and drink, materials for housing, fuel and many industrial uses. Its medicinal uses are many and varied. The ancients knew early on the miraculous usage of this healing food. Coconut oil was used then as an anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal as its medicinal properties include medium chain fatty acids: lauric acid (C12:0) in its monoglyceride form (monolaurin or ML).

Coconut oil is effective in treating viruses, among a host of other conditions. The oil contains unique characteristics and nutrients that make it an effective treatment option. Coconut Oil targets specific health conditions and aids in boosting general health as well.

Lauric Acid & The Human Body

The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, which can be helpful in dealing with viruses and bacteria that causes disease such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV.Coconut oil does have an anti-viral effect, and can beneficially reduce the viral load of HIV patients. A minimum of 50 ml of coconut oil is metabolized in the body to release monolaurin which is an antibiotic and an anti-viral agent. Among the saturated fatty acids, lauric acid has the maximum anti-viral activity.

Additional Medicinal Uses of Coconut Oil

  • Anti-bacterial (kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, gum diseases, and other bacterial infections)
Anti-carcinogenic (coconut oil has antimicrobial properties so it effectively prevents the spread of cancer cells and enhances the immune system)
  • Anti-fungal (kills fungi and yeast that lead to infection)
  • Anti-inflammatory (appears to have a direct effect in suppressing inflammation and repairing tissue, and it may also contribute by inhibiting harmful intestinal microorganisms that cause chronic inflammation.)
  • Anti-microbial/Infection Fighting (the medium-chain fatty acids and monoglycerides found in coconut oil are the same as those in human mother's milk, and they have extraordinary antimicrobial properties. By disrupting the lipid structures of microbes, they inactivate them. About half of coconut oil consists of lauric acid. Lauric acid, its metabolite monolaurin and other fatty acids in coconut oil are known to protect against infection from bacteria, viruses, yeast, fungi and parasites. While not having any negative effect on beneficial gut bacteria, coconut oil inactivates undesirable microbes.)
  • An Antioxidant (protects against free-radical formation and damage)
  • Anti-parasitic (fights to rid the body of tapeworms, lice and other parasites)
  • Anti-protozoa (kills giardia, a common protozoan infection of the gut)
  • Anti-retroviral (kills HIV and HLTV-1)
  • Anti-viral (kills viruses that cause influenza, herpes, measles, hepatitis C, SARS, AIDS, and other viruses)
Gain Access To Coconut Oil Quickly
I purchase right here at Amazon so that it comes to my front door. I never go without. As a matter of fact, it's time to get more!

4 Ways Of Dealing With People You Don't Like

I know, I know, I get it. People can make it very difficult to like them at times. Yet by force, we have to simply suck it up and make the most of a bad situation. So what environment do you find those challenges of dealing with people that you don't like? No, you can not banish them from the Earth, but you can come up with strategies to deal with them, particularly if you have to encounter them on a regular basis.

4 Ways Of Dealing With People You Don't Like

1. Take A Deep Breath, It's Temporary

Whether we all know it or not, everyone has a purpose in this life. That very person before you can serve as a positive influence in your life. If nothing more, they are teaching you the art of tolerance. Who said we are supposed to like everyone? Tolerance affords you the opportunity to draw inferences in points of view, and may even validate that the things you strongly believe in are confirmed. The person isn't placed in your life to torture you, but rather allow you to put into practice, respectfully accepting varied perspectives. Trust me, it's only for a short while!

2. Change The Dynamics With The Way You Communicate

You're going to want to brace yourself before the person even opens their mouth, I know.  Remember, most times, the person doesn't even know the disdain that you have for them (unless you blatantly tell them of course). So they are just being themselves while you on the other hand have your pantaloons in a bunch. Try to change the dynamics with which you communicate with them. Extract from them something universal that you can relate to. I'm sure it will place ease in the conversation. And try not to let it be known or recognized that you dislike them. That only makes you look like you have a problem with coping.

3. Kill Them With Kindness

It's not good to harbor ill feelings towards others as it can only affect your health. (headaches, stomach discomfort, ulcers) So why don't you change your attitude toward them and not focus on the things you dislike, but rather focus on the purpose of the engagement. You've heard of fake it 'till you make it....? Yes, do a little bit of that. Remember, you disliking others is YOUR problem and not theirs.

4. Kindly Tell Them

Now don't be mean about it! But if given opportunity, let them know that there is something that they are saying or doing that you don't like. Particularly when you will be working with them on a regularly basis and they are for example, a colleague, they may even want to change those things that are disturbing you to improve the relationship. However if it is a supervisor or someone in leadership in a working environment, I suggest that you resort to the first suggestion above. Choose your decisions wisely!

Disclaimer: Do not substitute suggestions provided for sound clinical advice. If you find yourself harboring ill feelings towards others regularly, seek professional assistance, as there may be a series of deeply routed concerns that require on-going analysis.

Now run-along, and get along!

Is Marriage In The Stars For You In the U.S.? For Some Groups, It Can Still Be Quite Dicey

With a mixture of opinion, observation, experience and factual research (if there is such a thing)a pretty compelling and sometimes uncomfortable subject in America has much to do with the statistics of who are quite eligible and marketable to get married, vs. those other groups who tend not to stand a snowballs chance in hell to gain such an opportunity.

The African American population of people have their share of discussion regarding this topic as many dispute whether it is the African American man whom shy away from such responsibility or is it that the African American woman has not readily prepared herself as she may be more focused on her career path rather than building a family. Some may even say that the males have gotten themselves in a heap of trouble; too much to repair to manage a family. Others say that the females simply have such a nasty disposition, that no one would want to marry them.

We can find that when all is said and done, when this discussion is let out of the bag, many from this group may even join forces. They may make claims of preserving their own independence, as they lack desire to share life experiences or they simply may not select to marry each other due to having interests elsewhere to people of varied ethnicity.....or even same gender.

Freedom Of Choice: A New Way Of Looking At Marriage

Originally, when this article was written, it was 2013. I simply did not post as it really wasn't necessary to me. Yet given the recent change of events in the U.S., whereby a landmark decision was made to grant people of the same gender to receive "equal rights" (whatever that is) for marriage...Might this open up the opportunity to certain groups; particularly African American women who have felt that their options were slim, an opportunity for marriage with their own kind...other women? I would imagine that the existing distorted averages and percentiles could potentially change whereby an increase of marital status may show evident, should this population make alternative decisions in their marital selections.

Disclaimer: This writer is neither for or against such decision-making in marriage, yet simply posing food for thought for those who have given any thought at all to the recent current events in the U.S.

Only time will tell where this is all going....Word?
