Aah, The Miraculous Hue Of The Virgin Rainbow Opal

(Photo: Richard Lyons/South Australian Museum)

by Abeni Bamidele

The photo above shows a brilliant specimen called the Virgin Rainbow Opal, coming straight out of Australia and will have its debut September 2015 at the South Australian Museum in Adelaide.  It's worth is over $1 million. Cash only folks, we don't want your check book to bounce.

This one stood out to me as I simply adore opals, and like those that I use in my designs, this opal is composed of the same properties of silica and water. Million is the magic number as its formation was developed over a million years ago from the opalized fossils of...DINOSAURS.  If only it could talk...right?

One of many, it's debut at the museum is dedicated to the many years of opal mining in South Australia.

If you're into opals like I am, find out more about their origin in the video below.

                                          HEALING PROPERTIES OF OPALS

Opal is an emotional stone and reflects the mood of the wearer.  It intensifies emotions and releases inhibitions.  Encourages both freedom and independence.  Opal enhances cosmic consciousness and induces psychic and mystical visions.  It stimulates originality and creativity.  Helps to release anger and claim self-worth, aiding in accessing and expressing one’s true self.  Opal strengthens memory.  It encourages an interest in the arts.  Wearing Opal brings loyalty, faithfulness and spontaneity. One could become mesmerized by the varied patterns in jewelry.
